Effect of drinking water restriction on feed intake, egg production, egg and eggshell quality, fecal moisture content, hematology and reproductive organ in the layer was studied. The birds were housed in 128 cages of 2 birds/cage in a closed poultry shed and randomly divided into four treatment groups. The birds in all groups were provided with layer diets at all times. The birds in group 1 were provided with water at all times (ad libitum group). Birds in group 2 (90 percent-water), 3 (80 percent-water) and 4 (70 percent-water) received 90 percent, 80 percent, and 70 percent drinking water of ad libitum, respectively. The amount of drinking water supplied to the restricted groups was calculated by the conventional full intake (ad libitum group). The results showed that fecal moisture contents of the restricted birds were less than those of the control hens (P LT 0.05). The birds in the water restricted groups consumed significantly less diets than those in the ad libitum group (P LT 0.05). An average of egg production, egg weight, yolk weight and eggshell quality of the 90 percent-water group were similar to those of the ad libitum group (P GT 0.05) which were higher than those of the 70 percent-water group (P LT 0.05). The hens in the 80 percent-water group tended to lose hen-day production and egg weight than those of the birds in the ad libitum group. However there were no significantly differences of eggshell quality between the two bird groups. Hematological values, oviduct weight, oviduct length and ovary weight of the birds in all groups of the experiment were not significantly different (P GT 0.05). The number of small-sized follicle (diameter LT 2mm.) of the hens in the 70 percent-water group was less than that of the other three bird groups (P LT 0.05).
