Irrigation provides effective means to increase crop growth and yield. However, there is relatively little information about turmeric growth response to different amounts of irrigation water. Thus, the objective of this study was to determine the effects amounts of irrigation water on growth of turmeric. The experiment was carried out under field condition at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, King Mongkutยs Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, during June to November, 2007. A Randomized Complete Block design with 4 replications was used. Five irrigation regimes based on the ratio amount of irrigation water (IW) to cumulative evaporation (E) (i.e. 1.0, 0.7, 0.5, 0.3 and 0.1). The results disclosed that the lower water amounts decreased diffusive conductance of stomata, transpiration rate and relative water content but increased leaf temperature. In addition, different irrigation amounts significantly affected on growth of turmeric. The highest amount of irrigation water (IW/E 1.0) gave the highest plant height, total dry weight and rhizome fresh and dry weight whereas the lowest amount of irrigation water (IW/E 0.1) gave the lowest.
