Retinas of short head anchovy (Encrasicholina heteroloba) and Indian squid (Loligo duvauceli d'Orbigny, 1848) both in light-dark adaptations were studied by histological examination under 3 microscopes. The objective was to compare both of retinas which were sampled by light fishing. The results showed that both of them had a single lens. Anchovy's retina received light reflected from the back side. Photoreceptor cells composed of cone and rod cells. Retinomotor response was contracted and expanded of the photoreceptor cells. The retinal tapetum was found inside the retinas cause sensitive eyes. While in the Indian squid, the retina received light directly. The retina composed of a hexagonal shape of photoreceptor cell called rhabdomer. Retinomotor response was movement of melanophore in the rhabdomer. Inside the rhabdomer, the microvilli in both horizontal and vertical planes were found. The existing of microvilli in both planes suggested that Indian squid take advantage for their movement and behavior. The comparative results could understand the retinal structure of them. It might be applied for responsible and sustainable of light fishery.
