Seroprevalence of caprine arthritis encephalitis virus infection in goats raised in the central part and western part of Thailand was studied. Blood samples of 223 dairy goats from 30 dairy goat farms and 624 meat goats from 70 meat goat farms were randomly collected. Antibodies against caprine arthritis encephalitis virus infection in serum were determined by using ELISA test kit. The results showed that individual prevalence of both dairy goats and meat goats was 12.40 percent and herd prevalence was 47 percent and 22 samples were suspected. Seroprevalence in dairy goats was higher than in meat goats (20.63 percent vs 9.46 percent) (p LT 0.001). Seroprevalence in bucks and does was higher than in yearlings and kids (p LT 0.001) which were 15.94 percent and 7.69 percent respectively. Female goats (13.21 percent) tended to have higher seroprevalence than male goats (6.67 percent) (p=0.054). The difference between seroprevalence in dairy goats and meat goats might associate with differences in management or species susceptibility between type of goats. Variation in routes of transmission and antibody responses might cause a difference of seroprevalence between age. The seroprevalence tended to be different between sex might come from a limited number of male goats in this study. According to the seroprevalence found in this study, proper prevention and control measures should be taken in order to reduce infection of these virus in Thailand.
