Southern rust caused by P. polysora Undrew. is a foliar disease that reduce yield and quality of sweet corn (Zea mays L.). The objectives of this study were to evaluate 204 sweet corn inbred lines from Sweet Seeds Co.,Ltd. for resistance to southern rust. Genetic studies were made for general resistance to southern rust by diallel and generation mean analyses. Disease assessment was used by ratings on the 1 to 9 scale where 9 being highly resistance. The result from assessment indicated that the inbred line hB4502 was the most resistant and showed the highest general combining ability. The cross hB4134 x hA4135 showed the highest specific combining ability. Generation mean analysis were made of six populations from the three crosseshB4502 x hA9035 hA4135 x hA9035 and hB4134 x hA9035. The analysis revealed significant additive and dominant effects in three mentioned crosses and significant epistasis effect in the two crosses (hB4502 x hA9035 and hA4135 x hA9035). Polygenic resistance was found in the inbred lines hB4502 hA4135 and hB4134.
