The effects of the high phosphorus and potassium rates in long-term experiment and the resulting contrasting reserves in the soil on the growth and chemical composition of oriental tobacco have been studied. Continuous fertilization with 22.5 kg Р2O5/da does not affect the biometrical and yield parameters as well as the phosphorus leaf concentration as compared to the lower rate 7.5 kg Р2O5/da. Long-term application of 45 kg K2О/da and the resulting very high reserve of available potassium 260.0 mg/100 g in the soil does not visibly suppress growth processes of the oriental tobacco. When tobacco is grown on calcareous soil potassium entrance in the plant is limited even at very high soil reserves with available potassium.
