A procedure for in vitro production of potato microtubers was developed for commonly grown potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.). Single nodal segments excised from in vitro propagated microplants according to Lê (1991) are used as initial explants. These explants were placed in a culture vessel containing nutrient media suitable to each stage of the tuberization process (growth, induction and tuberization) in view of promoting the tuber formation under controlled conditions. Under our conditions of culture, the quality of microtubers could be enhanced in terms of number, size and weight leading to the production of plant material with large calibre necessary for field planting.
