Botrytis grey mould is one of the most important grapevine diseases. Efficacy of specific fungicides is often limited by the climatic conditions in September. In Switzerland, the use of botryticides is only allowed until mid-August. In spite of the long period of time until harvest, the fungicides residues in the berries and wine have to be considered. Experiments have been conduced on the variety Gamay from 2006 to 2008 at Agroscope ACW Changins (VD) to analyse the level of residues depending on different control strategies. The strategies have been chosen according to previous experiments showing the best compromise between efficacy and residues. In general, the fungicides used against Botrytis, downy and powdery mildew, are degraded during winemaking. The level of residues in the wine is very low and was always largely under the accepted tolerance (MLR). The production of wines without traces of botryticides is desirable, but can only be guaranteed with gray mould resistant varieties, as Gamaret.
