Methods for determining the contents of metabolizable energy for broilers in sorghum varieties | Métodos para la determinación del contenido de energía metabolizable para broilers en variedades de sorgo

El presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo la comparación del contenido de MEN de cuatro variedades de sorgo cultivadas en la región central de Cuba, determinado por calorimetría (balance energético) y estimado a partir de la digestibilidad aparente de los nutrientes. La digestibilidad de nutrientes se determinó en experimentos de balances realizados con pollos de ceba. Los contenidos de MEN de las cuatro variedades de sorgo oscilaron entre 12,46 y 18,32 MJ MeN/kg MS. Las variedades con bajo contenido de taninos (UDG 110, CIAP 6 y CIAP 9) mostraron contenidos superiores de MEN tanto en el balance energético como por el método de la digestibilidad aparente (13,44 y 13,60 MJ MEN /kg MS respectivamente) en comparación con la variedad CIAP 2 de alto contenido de taninos(12,46 y 12,58 MJ MEN /kg MS). Los resultados de esta investigación mostraron que las variedades de sorgo con bajo contenido en taninos tienen un mayor contenido energético que las variedades de alto contenido en taninos y que el contenido energético puede ser determinado por ambos métodos sin que se presenten diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre ellos. Estos resultados validan, otra alternativa en el campo de la valoración energética de productos para su utilización en la alimentación de las aves.

The objective of the present work was to compare the contents of MEN of four sorghum varieties which are cultivated in the Cuban central region, as determined by calorimetry (energetic balance) and estimated from the apparent digestibility of the nutrients according to Haertel et al. (1977). The digestibility of nutrients was determined in balance experiments carried out with broilers. The MEN contents of the four sorghum varieties oscillated between 12,46 and 13,83 MJ MEN / kg of dry matter(DM). The varieties with low tannin contents (UDG 110, CIAP 6 and CIAP 9) showed higher MEN content, both in the energetic balance and in the apparent digestibility method (13,44 and 13, 60 MJ MEN / kg of DM, a high tannin content (12,46 and 12,58 MJ MEN / kg o DM. According to the results shown in the literature, those of this research work showed that sorghum varieties with low tannin content have a higher energetic content than the varieties of high tannin content, and that the energetic content can be determined by both methods without showing significant statistical differences between them. These results undoubtedly validate another alternative in the fields of energetic valuation of foods for use in the feeding of birds.
