A study of the distribution of root activity of mature cacao (Theobroma cacao L.) using the P32 soil injection technique
1969
Ahenkorah, Y., Cocoa Research Institute, P.O. Box 8, Tafo (Ghana)
The leaf content of P02 of 48 mature cacao trees from four varieties is reported. It was found that the specific activity (cpm/mgP) of the P32 in the leaves varies inversely with the depth of placement of the P32_ Regardless of varietal differences in the P32 content of the leaves, root activity was found to be about 10 times greater within the top I-in zone than at lower depths. Provisional communication. Received 16 Apr 69, revised 5 Aug 69. The work reported is part of the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency Coordinated Programme on the Use of Isotopes to Study the Efficient Use of Fertilizers in Tree Culture (Contract 544/RB).
