The effects of seed priming with water alone and Boron, Zinc and Potassium elements on grain yield and protein content in Chickpea.

This experiment was conducted in order to study the effects of seed priming with water and Boron, Zinc and Potassium elements on grain yield and protein content of Chickpea during 2005-2007, at Saral agricultural research station (north Sanandaj) in Kurdistan Province. Sixteen treatments were arranged in a randomized block design with three replications. Treatments were: 1) seed priming with water (A1) and non-primed (A0)2) seed priming with one per thousand Boric acid (B0.001) and non-Boric acid (B0)3) seed priming with two per thousand Zinc sulphate (Zn0.002) and non-Zinc sulphate (Zn0)4) seed priming with three per thousand Potassium chloride (K0.003) and non-Potassium chloride (K0). The results of combined variance analysis revealed that the Chickpea yield was different affected by rate and distribution of precipitation in different years and it was significant at 1% level. Therefore the grain yield in third year was higher than first and second years. Seed piming with water alone was positive and significant and it increased the grain yield and its components. Intraction effects of year and seed priming showed that raising moisture in soil helps to improving primed crop growth with water before sowing. Seed treatment with Boron, Zinc and potassium elements showed positive and significant effects on grain yield and its components. Highest grain yield was belonged to seed priming with boron and zinc elements respectively. Intraction effects of seed priming with water and Boron, Zinc and Potassium elements were positive and significant on grain quantity and quality, so that, highest grain yield and protein content was belonged to seed priming with boron and zinc elements seperately. These increasings were significant in comparison to check treatment. In addition, seed priming with all three Boron, Zinc and Potassium treaments together on yield and related characters often showed negative effect. It probably was due to antagonism effects of the elements on product.
