An investigation on abundance and distribution of pistachio twig borer moth's parasitoids and hyperparasitoids.

The variety, abundance and distribution of the parasitoids and hyperparasitoids of the pistachio twig borer moth, Kermania pistaciella were studied in Kerman province, southern of Iran. Based on the present research, 15 wasps' species were emerged from the moth's cocoons. The results showed, on average 53,3٪of pest population was controlled naturally at present orchards conditions. The mortality of pest population was varied in pistachio orchards, however natural parasitism rate in 15 experimental sites were above 40٪. These results clearly verified the role of biocontrol agents in an agro-ecosystem like the pistachio orchards. In addition, it was found that Chelonus kermakiae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), is the major primary parasitoid of K. pistaciella in pistachio growing areas of Kerman province. The parasitoids of the twig borer moth belonged 8 hymenopterous families includingBraconidaeChalcididaeEncyrtidaeEulophidaeEupelmidaeEurytomidaeIchneumonidae and Pteromalidae.
