Evaluation of salinity tolerance of barley lines/varieties in yield trial.

In this experiment 18 lines / varieties that hed been selected from last years preliminary barley yield trial under salin condition were evaluated for their performance in such a circumstances. The experiment was done as RCBD using three replications from 2005 to 2007. Traits such as grain yield, thousand kernel weight, number of spike per m-2 , number of grain per spike, peduncle length, plant high , length of spike, days to heading and days to maturity were measured. Based on the results of combined analysis significant difference was found between lines / varieties for some traits such as days to heading, peduncle length, and number of grain per spike at 1% level. In the first year (2005- 2006) lines number 11 and 12 with grain yield 4.3 and 4.2 ton/ha had higher yield than the checks, but in the second year (2006-2007) all lines / varieties had a lower or same grain yield compared to the checks. Based on the results lines number 8,9,19 and 12 with grain yield 3.2, 2.7, 2.9 and 2.9 ton/ha respectively ,were better than the others.
