food and mouth disease (FMD) is a highly coatgious viral disease. all cloven-hoofed animals are susceptible to the disease the virus of FMD has high ability of quick spread in sensitive herds. lot of work has been caried out of contorol this disease in cattle and swine. but very little in sheep. thus the information on vaccination effects in pregnant ewes and their immune reponse in lacking. similarly the prtective quality of passive antibodies acquired by lambs flom FMD vaccinated ewes as well asthe effect of these antibodies on the immunogenic response in such lambs after FMD racination is not clearly known. in this study 14 native pregnant ewes were selected. they were vaccinoted by trivalent FMDvaccine(asia-1,am,o1)at the egeof 10-12 th week of pregnany allwes indicate a good immune reponse to FMD, without any side effects. although antibody titers reduced slightly at the end of pregnancy , but not less then protective antibody reponse. the results indicate that persistance of antibody in colostrum fed lambs protected them against FMD up to the age of 40-50 th days. there was no case of FMD disease in vaccinated and nonvaccineted sheep and lambs.
