The results of investigations about growth and development of grey alder coppices in different forest types are given. The number of first-year sprouts varied between 25.8 and 188 thousands. The amount of grey alder sprouts reached 65-95% out of the total, whereas amount of other species' (Prunus, Coryllus, Fraxinus, Acer, Sorbus, Tilia, etc.) sprouts, depending on a particular forest site, reached 23% in the Oxalidosa, 28% in the Aegopodiosa, 35% in the Mercuraliosa mel., 31% in the Drypteriosa, 10% in the Myrtilloso sphagnosa, and 5% in the Hylocomiosa forest site. In the second year, the number of sprouts decreased by 16% in the Aegopodiosa, by 25% in the Oxalidosa, by 30% in the Hylocomiosa, and by 46% in the Mercurialiosa mel. forest type. The height of first-year coppices ranged between 0.8-1.2 m, root collar diameter - 0.81-1.76 cm, height of second-year coppices - 2.02-2.93 m, and diameter at breast height - 0.77-1.79 cm. The amount of dry biomass of one-year old coppices varied between 1390 and 3200 kg haE-1, but of two-year old coppices - between 3413 and 5544 kg haE-1.
