An agribusiness development project within the technology-based framework was conducted from CY 2004 to CY 2009 to rehabilitate lanzones farms in Laguna and Batangas. The aim was to enhance lanzones productivity and profitability. The three components of the project were: 1) raising productivity of lanzones farms, 2) expansion of planted areas with improved varieties and 3) institutionalization and support to lanzones growers. A total of 5400 unproductive trees were rehabilitated by improving package of technology, improving the pomological characteristics; increasing the yield from 5.2 to 15.2 kg per tree and reducing the bark borer damage on lanzones trees by 30%. The net income, marginal benefit cost ratio (MBCR) and number of jobs generated varied among sites. The highest net income of PhP1221 per tree, with MBCR OF 17.67, was obtained in San Ildefonso, Alaminos, Laguna. One hundred forty two farmers adopted the technology. Another income-generating activity was the establishment of lanzones nurseries wherein good quality planting materials were propagated. The percentage return on investment (ROI) obtained was 99.67% within six months. Through the conduct of meetings, training, seminars, lakbay-aral and consultation meetings, the farmers were able to organize associations in six locations and the local government units were able to mobilize in enhancing information dissemination.
