The International Network for Genetic Evaluation of Rice (INGER) at the International Rice Research Institute provides an effective linkage for collaboration among the various national and international rice improvement programs to accelerate genetic improvement of rice for different ecosystems around the world. From this collaboration, INGER aims to make the world's elite germplasm available to rice scientists around the world. To facilitate access to both germplasm and information while maximizing the potential of the World Wide Web in fostering interaction among INGER Collaborators, INGER developed a new website using the next-generation Web 2.0 technology and Joomlal (a content management system) platform. The website has multiple functionalities, which comprises of online germplasm nominations, data trial submission and reporting, news and information dissemination from national and international partner institutions, and almost real-time interactions among INGER cooperators. In addition, graphical results of DNA fingerprints and genetic diversity analysis of NARES nominations were displayed to benefit plant breeders in protecting germplasm integrity and aid them in selecting promising germplasm for their future breeding programs. Currently, development of an online germplasm ordering system is underway for nursery requests to better serve breeders and stakeholders.
