An 8-week feeding trial was conducted to determine the effect of locally formulated diets on growth and body composition of channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) fingerlings. For this purpose three diets having different protein contents (40, 35 and 30% CP respectively) were compared with imported floating feed with 37% protein. Fish of almost the same size (20g) were fed daily @ 3 % of their wet body weight. The weight of fish was recorded fortnightly in between and finally at the end of trial. Fish were subjected to proximate analysis. Protein efficiency ratio, feed efficiency ratio, percent weight gain, net protein utilization, food conversion ratio and specific growth rate were calculated to compare the growth of fish in different treatments. The results revealed that fish fed on control diet attained significantly (P less than 0.05) higher growth followed by those fish fed with locally formulated diets.
