In the prevention and treatment of milder forms of diseases, chronic diseases and recurrent infections in farm animals the application of individual or combined medicinal herb preparations has long been used. The application of some herbal preparations can initiate the function of the effector defensive cells and potentiate their defensive capacities. On the other hand, some immuno-suppresive phytopreparations are used in order to reduce or prevent undesired activities of immune system (allergic reactions and autoimmune disease). By the regulations of the European Union from 2006 the use of antibiotics as growth stimulators in livestock production was forbidden so aromatic herbs and their extracts have recently been more and more used for that purposes.
