An experiment was established on the Hungarian oak and Turkish oak (Quercetum frainetto-cerris Rud.) site in the wider territory of Belgrade with a mat made of nature coconut fibres and the following phytomaterials: mixture of grasses for sunny terrains on the slopes (Poa trivialis - 40%, Festuca rubra - 30%, Poa pratensis - 20% and Agrostis vulgaris - 10%), and the species Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm. The results of the experiment show that coconut fibre mat is an extraordinary ecological material suitable also for extremely steep and degraded areas, because it stabilises the soil, and also it is an ideal substrate for plant growth and development, because it improves the development of plant roots, retains soil moisture, improves aeration and enables plant root penetration. As the mats are biodegradable, the interval of 10 years is a sufficiently long time period for the plant material to take over the bio-reclamation function.
