The article deals with the Kyoto Protocol Flexible Mechanisms implementation in agriculture, putting focus on potential benefits and necessary preconditions that are to be fulfilled in order to obtain a maximum benefit for the sustainable development in Serbia. Serbia had ratified the Kyoto Protocol in 2007; however until now no CDM projects have been undertaken. In spite the fact that potential inflow of foreign investments via CDM Projects in Serbian agriculture is estimated to be about 15 million US $ annually, and the fact that there is a growing interest for CDM projects in crop production and in animal husbandry, until now nothing has been done. In order to solve the problem the article puts forward the following proposals: 1) Create a sufficient amount of human resources needed for a successful implementation of CDM in Serbia; 2) Finally complete GHG Inventory preparations; 3) Create the First National Communication to the UNFCCC; 4) Adopt the National Climate Change Strategy in order to define an optimal choice for flexible mechanisms implementation.
