The major entities of agricultural production in Southeast European countries are farms encompassing most of the agricultural resources such as: land, livestock, fruits, agricultural machinery, and household members, i.e. labour, the basic resource in agricultural production. Similar to Serbia neighbouring countries (the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina) whose major goal is EU accession as well, Serbia needs to undergo significant changes in the field of agriculture. Therefore, major agricultural resources need to be analyzed in order to contribute to future development of agricultural production on Serbian farms. A comparison study was undertaken with countries in the region. Both organizational and economic changes on Serbian farms and those of the neighbouring countries in the agricultural sector are needed during transition and EU accession.
