The author analyses the normative regulation of rural development in our country by considering the comparative practice in neighboring countries and in European Union. Passing the law on agriculture and rural development is a major advance in legal regulation of this matter. The system solutions created by this law and institutions are analyzed as well as measures and strategic documents related to it. The role of rural development in relation to the Serbian economic growth and its inevitable entailing normative regulations are analyzed in detail. The strategic documents which are being prepared by the government in order to realize legal norms are also thoroughly analyzed.
