There are presented results of examination made on 10 monogerm and 10 multigerm genotypes of sugar beet. Root properties (mass, dry matter content, mass of the head, proportion of the had mass, number of cambial rings, surface appearance, length, diameter), and seed traits (yield and mass of 1000 seeds) were measured. Obtained data were tested by LSD test. Correlation coefficient and indicators of variability (standard error of the mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation) were calculated. Using cluster analysis (group analysis) materials were grouped according to similarieties or differences. Examined genotypes showed significant variability for all analyzed traits. The genotypes with more positive characteristics were separated and they will be used for further hybridization. Positive correlation was observed between root mass and mass of the root head, root mass and root length, root mass and root diameter, the mass of the root head and proportion of the head mass, mass of the head and diameter of the root, the number of rings and the appearance of root surface. Multigerm genotypes showed better root characteristics and higher coefficient of variation than monogerm in the average.
