Non-destructive method for measuring leaf area of grapevine variety Rhine Riesling

Leaf area is important parameter in identifying grapevine growth and development. In presented paper the non-destructive method of using sum of length of two main lateral veins was tested for measuring leaf area of grapevine variety Rhine Riesling. Leaf data were collected from field experiment during 2006. Analyses of obtained data showed high correlation between actual leaf area and sum of length of 2 main lateral veins as well as between actual and calculated leaf area. These results confirmed that length of lateral veins could be use as leaf parameters for calculation of leaf area in Rhine Riesling variety. Method could be recommended as a simple, accurate and not expensive method for continual measurements lots of leaves under field conditions.
