The system of labour productivity indicators for animal farms has been developed. It allows to evaluate labour input effectiveness for both a farm and its enterprises, units, different categories of employees as well as work places. The labour productivity enhancing patterns are suggested for dairy and beef farms. Based on data from dairy farms in some Russian regions (the Samara region, the Ryazan region etc.), the correlation between labour productivity, expressed in labour input per head of cattle, and per 100 kg of product, and number of cows, their productivity, assets per labour unit and labour force is studied. The three sets of labour productivity indicators could be applied, depending upon the objectives of analysis: resulting, forcasting and indirect ones. The first ones are calculated at the end of a technological process for a certain product. The others are based on work time use for a given period. Thereby, it is suggested to apply the indicator of labour input per cow instead of the number of cows per worker. The main labour productivity indicator for economically independent units and managers should be income, i.e. output without production input, per employee. The data from the above-mentioned regions suggests that the correlation between labour productivity on the one hand and livestock number and animal productivity on the other hand is positive. The correlation between labour productivity and assets per employee appeared to be indefinite. The key determinants of labour productivity improvement are scale of production, livestock, productivity and animal breeders encouragement. The labour productivity enhancing patterns encompass leasing for small-sized family farms, coupling wage and output for medium – and large-sized farms as well as labour diversification
