[Pregnancy and infertility diagnosis in cows by ultrasonography]

The operation of ultrasonic apparatuses to diagnose pregnancy and infertility in cows has been considered. The procedure of transrectal visual sonography of internal genitals of cows and heifers is given. The low information content of sonographic scanning internal genitals in cows was found out at days 21-25 and 26-30 after insemination. In this time only indirect signs of pregnancy can be found: yellow body in ovaries and ipsilateral uterine horn. The precision of diagnosis is 50%, the method sensitivity is 12.5%. The pregnancy can be identified in 77.8% of animals at days from 26 to 30 after insemination. The diagnose precision is 100%. Sonographic examination is rather informative at days since 31, the precision reaches 100%. The estimation of vital activity of embryo in early time is based on registration of cardiac activity and motor performance. Sonographic diagnosis of fertility in cows and heifers is preferably carried out at the pregnancy time 49-55% when an embryo reaches 0.027-0.045 m. At days 60-100 of pregnancy a fetus sex can be determined. The correctness of 98-100% of sex definition is reached at days 60-70. That is, visual sonography is effective for diagnosing and monitoring the clinical course in cows
