Benomyl is the common name of the fungicides Sharben and Jiamyl. Chemically, it is: methyl 1-(butylcarbamoyl) benzimidazol-2-ylcarbamate. It is a systemic fungicide with protective and curative action through inhibition of mitosis by binding to beta-tubuline. Benomyl belongs to the benzimidazole group of chemicals. In plants, the butylcarbamoyl group of benomyl is removed to give carbendazim which has the same toxicity class of benomyl (IV). Then carbendazim is degraded to the non-toxic 2-aminobenzimidazole, so carbendazim was also included in the analysis. Benomyl formulated as Sharben 50 % WP and Jiamyl 50 % WP were evaluated by Suad Abdul Gameel during season 2006/ 07 for the control of powdery mildew in snake cucumber
