An experiment was conducted at Gezira Research Station Farm during season 2006-07 to study the efficacy of Starmetryn 500SC (prometryn) in tank mixture with Goal 24 EC (oxyfluorfen) on weed control and seed cotton yield. Gesagard 500 SC (prometryn) was included as a counterpart, in addition to weeded and unweeded controls for comparison. Both formulations of prometryn in mixture with Goal 24 EC (oxyfluorfen) without supplementary hand-weeding displayed excellent control of broad- leaved weeds (84 _ 86%) with moderate persistent effects (63 _ 67%) late in the season. They also exhibited excellent (100%) and highly persistent (97%) effects on grasses. Herbicides treatments without supplementary hand- weeding reduced weed ground cover by 86 _ 89% and 67 _ 70% early and late in the season, respectively. These treatments reduced weed biomass in comparison with the unweeded control. Starmetryn 500 SC or Gesagard 500 FW in mixture with Goal 24 EC reduced man-hours required for supplementary weeding by more than 80% in comparison with the weeded control. Unrestricted weed growth reduced seed cotton yield by 74%. All herbicides treatments significantly out-yielded the unweeded control. Seed cotton yield of Starmetryn 500 SC in mixture with Goal 24 EC with supplementary weeding was not significantly different from that of Gesagard 500 FW in mixture with Goal 24 EC with supplementary weeding or the weed-free treatment
