Evaluation of pendimight 50 EC (a new formulation of pendimethalin) in mixture with gesaprim 80WP (atrazine) for weed control in sugarcane

An experiment was conducted at Kenana Sugarcane Research Farm in season 2006/07 with the objective to evaluate the efficacy of Pendimight 50 EC (a new formulation of pendimethalin) in tank mixture with Gesaprim 80 WP (atrazine) for pre-emergence weed control in sugarcane. In addition to the counterpart (Stomp 500 EC + Gesaprim 80 WP), the standard (Gesapax 80 WP + Gesaprim 80 WP), the hand-weeded and the unweeded control treatments were included for comparison. The tank mixture of Pendimight 50 EC at 0.625 kg a.i/fed with Gesaprim 80 WP at 0.6 kg a.i/fed consistently showed excellent control of grassy weeds (84 - 97%) and poor to excellent control of broad-leaved weeds (48 _ 91%).The herbicides treatments revealed no adverse effects on the plant cane. Pendimight 50 EC at 0.625 kg a.i/fed in tank mixture with Gesaprim 80 WP at 0.6 kg a.i/fed significantly out-yielded the weedy check and attained cane yield comparable to that of the standard treatment and its counterpart
