An investigation on vegetative abilities of gooseberry plants was carried out in the period 1999–2000. Object of the investigation were 10 introduced varieties and each of them was represented by 5 plants. There were found out the parameters of the main traits that describe both vegetative and generative characteristics of plants – bush height and width, number of one-year young shoots, number of main shoots, shoots diameter, number of fruits a shoot, fruit weight, yield. The average values for the main traits give a real characteristic of gooseberry plants grown in certain climatic conditions of the region. The average height of the plants is 103.08 cm. The width of bushes in intra-rows and in rows is 117.93 cm and 112.00 cm. The shoot-producing ability of plants is an average of 4.06 shoots a bush. The number of main fruitful shoots is 15.75 for a bush. The number of fruits per main shoot is 41.92 ones. The actual average yield a bush is 1,113 kg while the potential one is 3,130 kg.
