Growth and development peculiar features of white clover (Trifolium repens) varieties of different morphotypes in the first year of their growing cultivated in the phytotron controlled environmental complex were studied in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus. The early-ripening white clover variety (Charodej) achieved the flowering stage on 14 days earlier than the late-ripening one (Volat). The peculiarities of the photosynthetic crop activity in the first growing year under conditions of different plant density were studied. Leaf area in all studied varieties increased in 1,5-1,6 times with the increasing of grass stand density from 35 up to 100 plants per square meter. However, the increasing of crop density up top 150 plants per square meter caused the reduction of clover leaf area. The advantages of early-ripening varieties over the late-ripening ones by the indices of dry matter accumulation before the flower bud stage were revealed. The last-mentioned advantages were conditioned by the different indices of pure photosynthetic productivity. In the conditions of the standard level of grass stand mineral nutrition and moist content all analysed white clover varieties by the beginning of the flowering stage formed almost the same yielding capacity of herbage and dry matter
