Results of studies of the photosynthetic activity of the second and third years grass stands of the different varieties (Dukhmyany, Charodej, Matvej and Volat) of white clover (Trifolium repens) cultivated in the field experiment conditions under different plant population density and pastoral usage in the Republic of Belarus were presented. Level of dry matter content accumulation by the studied grass stands depended on the weather conditions, degrees of the phothosynthetic potential and pure photosynthesis productivity. Formation of productivity of early-ripening variety Charodej was identical to the same indices of late ripening Volat variety and took place due to the high pure photosynthesis productivity (in average 3,06 against 2,81 g/m2 per day, respectively). Leaf area growth rate directly depended on plant population density. In course of the vegetation period the highest yielding capacity of green mass and dry matter was stated for all varieties in the conditions of plant stand density of 75plants/m2. But in the gracing cycle condition the highest accumulation was stated in the conditions of 50 or 100 plants/m2. Differences of rates of dry matter accumulation by Dukhmyany and Charodej varieties were caused by the indices of pure photosynthesis productivity of 3,10 and 3,05 g/m2 per day and the identical level of the photosynthetic potential (1,76 mln/m2 per day)
