The new scheme of creation of initial material for the winter rye (Secale cereale) breeding for quality traits realized the conditions of the Republic of Belarus were presented. Analysis of existing requirements to the quality of winter rye taking into consideration its different use for the specified purposes (for bread baking; for fodder production; and for distillery industry) was realized. Data on a variation of quality signs in two hybrid populations of diploid rye and one population of tetraploid rye were presented. Correlation of productivity and quality traits (plant height, disease prevalence, head heeling, number of heads, head length, number of grains per head, grain weight, number of the germinated seeds) of diploid winter rye variety samples was analysed. Agronomic qualities of the cultivated samples of the first and second and third populations were analysed. Statistical analysis of protein content in the pedigree plants was presented. Research results of double sampling for crop resistance to the pre-harvesting germinating of grain on the basis of indirect and direct indicators made it possible to increase the quality of resistant genotypes per population
