The objects of the research are Sudan grass (Sorghum sudanense), Siberian millet (Setaria iualica), Japanese millet (Echinochloa crus-galli variety frumentacea), cultivated on grain and herbage in Gomel region of the Republic of Belarus. Grain-forage crops have a more sustained vegetation period in comparison with millet on 20-55 days. The interstage period Shoots-Ear formation of grain-forage crops is long-lived then this one at millet on 19-26 days, and it consists 62-69 days. Therefore a time factor is one of the reasons providing formation of productivity of herbage in 1,2-1,5 times above in comparison with millet which on the average at one hay crop makes 457-568 c/ha. As a result of realized analysis of cultivation of military crops in comparison with millet by the yield of grain and herbage depending on the length of vegetation season it is revealed that greater length of the interstage period of shoots-ear formation promotes forming higher herbage yield. However, due to this grain yield is inferior to more early-ripening species of field millet by 2,6-18,4 c/ha or 9,2-63,0% at sowing in the third decade of May.
