Survey and relative densities of insect pests and their predators associated with mint, roselle and marjoram at abo-kabir district sharkia governorate

Studies on the insect pests attacking mint, roselle and marjoram plants and their associated predators were carried out at Abo- Kabir district, Sharkia Governorate, Egypt during the two successive seasons of 2006-07 and 2007-08. The obtained results indicated that 17, 14 and 10 insect species belonging to 11, 12 and 8 families and 7, 6 and 5 orders were recorded as insect pests on mint,roselle and marjoram, respectively. Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) was the most dominant insect pest on both of mint and marjoram plants, while Aphis gossypii Glover was the main insect pest on roselle plants. Ten, nine and eight species of predaceous insects belonging to 8,7 and 6 families and 6, 6 and 4 orders were surveyed on mint, roselle and marjoram plants, successively. The most dominant predaceous insects recorded on the three mentioned plants were Orius albidipennis (Reut.), Coccinella undecimpunctata L. and Metasyrphus (=Syrphus) corollae (Fabr.), respectively.
