The Baladi cattle breed is traditionally reared in the Upper Egypt. It is defined as Humpless Shorthorn cattle and appears to be similar in evolutionary descent with the Humpless Shorthorn cattle of western and central Africa. The genetics biodiversity of this breed and its population structure by microsatellites markers (28 STR loci) was investigated. The statistical parameters indicated a high level of biodiversity, being the average number of alleles of 6,25. The population appears to be quite in HW disequilibrium, probably due to extensive geographical distribution of samples. The AFC analysis showed a homogenous genetic pattern. The Bayesian assignment analyses, performed including international cattle breeds, confirmed some influences from Bos indicus.
