Seasonality in the reproductive Behavious of Local (Zebu) and Crossbred Cows in three Locations of Ethiopia.

Reproductive rythm of zebu and 50% crossbred cows was studied using the ratio: number of heats detected per average number of empty cows, throughout a year in two locations. The ratio was higher in crossbred than in zebu cows independent of season and location. In both cases high degree of seasonality was evident. A multiple regression model was used in an effort to find if there was relationship between seasonality in reproduction and rainfall, rainfall tow month's earlier average minimum temperatures and day length. Although R2 between all the independent variables and reproductive behaviour ranged from .86 to .99 none of the independent variables was appreciably related singly to the reproductive pattern independent of their variables.
