In order to evaluate winter planting possibility of resistant oilseed sunflower cultivars in rainfed conditions of gonbad which may increase utilizing efficiency of precipitation as well as mitigating last season heat and drought damages, an experiment was conducted at gonbad agricultural research station in years (2003- 2006). A split-plot design with RCBD base and 4 replications was used. Four planting date (dec 20th, jan 20th, feb 20th and march 20th) and 4 cultivars (Azargol, Gabor, Progress and Zaria) were levels of main and sub-plots respectively. Common notetakings consist of phenologic stages, yield and its related traits was done. Results analyzed each year and after 3rd year, combined analysis of variance on evaluated traits was done using F-test. Effect of year was significant on all traits with the exception of oil percentage and yield. Difference of planting dates was significant in case of stem diameter, duration, 1000 seed weight and seed yield. First and last planting date had highest (1.898) and lowest (1.305 t/ha) seed yield respectively. Delay in planting date resulted in yield and its related traits decreasion. Effect of cultivar was significant on all traits with the exception of head diameter, oil content and oil yield. Interaction effect of year X planting date was significant on plant height, duration, seed weight and yield which could be attributed to different responses of yield and its related traits in 2nd year (2004-2005) of experiment which had very cold winter. Effect of culivar was significant on all traits with the exception of head diameter, oil content and yield. Gabor and Zaria had the highest(1.849t/ha) and lowest(1.539t/ha) seed yield respectively. Three year means indicated that Gabor and Zaria performed well in 1st planting date(dec 20th) whereas Azargol and Progrss had their best performance on 3rd planting date(Feb 20th).
