Comparision of inclusion' in diet of Prangos ferulacea and Medicago sativa on fattening performance of Fars native sheep (Gray Shirazy).

In this study different levels of hay from the range" Prangos ferulacea " were included in the ration of lambs in the feedlot. Chemical composition was determined by proximate analysis. Seventy-two lambs were randomaly divided into six groups of 12 lambs each The hay of Prangos ferulacea was included in the ration. as to replace 100 , 80 , 60, 40, 20 and 0 % of ration total roughage. The remainder was Alfalfa hay. Each ration contained 60% roughage and 40% concentarte. The ration were fed gradually over a preliminary period of 3 weeks, followed by 100 days during the fattening period. Initial and slaughter weights, total feed intake and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were not different between experimental groups. Carcass characteristics were not influenced by the treatment Average daily gains (ADG) for the six experimental groups were 201, 207, 211, 213, 216 and 221 g and feed conversion ratio was Z33, Z12, 6.95, Z06, 6.94 and 6.78 kg feed to kg gain for groups 1 to 6, respectively. ADG were not statistically different among different groups.Due to high production potential and cheeper costs of this range plant in the Fars province, it may be replaced in the diet of fattening lambs without any adverse effect on performance. In this experiment treatments No 3 and 4 (40 - 60 Percent P.ferulacea replaced with MSativa) had better results
