It is important to define which one from plant growth factors determines yield level. During recent years in Latvia in most cases it was moisture. Grain yield level in most cases depends on meteorological conditions during tillering stage. Plants do not utilize all water from precipitation. Rainwater efficiency depends on soil texture and humus content. Investigations were carried out in Research and Study farm ''Vecauce'' during 2005 – 2007 in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) field. The aim of this study was to clarify effect of unregulated edaphic factors (elevation of observation points, thickness of A horizon, soil texture and content of organic matter) on soil moisture. Analysing impact of differences of soil A horizon thickness, soil texture and content of organic matter on soil moisture, it was concluded that only influence of organic matter differences was significant.
