Basil, oregano, and marigold were assessed for repellency against the flea beetle when used as pechay intercrop, companion crop, or as leaf extract spray on the crop. Among the three plant species tested, the use of basil consistently resulted in lowest flea beetle population, lowest rating for the pechay plants. Consequently, significantly greater pechay harvest (no. and wt. of marketable plants) was obtained from plots with basil plants or sprayed with basil leaf extracts that from those plots with oregano or marigold, demonstrating the effective repelling action of basil against the pechay flea beetle.
