Modeling the effect of cultivar and nitrogen rate on growth, radiation use efficiency and yield of maize hybrids under agro-climatic conditions of Sargodha
2007
Nasir, I.R.
The experiment was consisted of three maize cultivars Bemasal-202, Monsanto-919 and Pioneer 31-R-88 and four nitrogen levels N1 @ 200 kg per ha and N2 @ 250 kg per ha N3 @ 300 kg per ha, N4 @ 350 kg per ha. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with four replications, having net plot size of 4.2 m x 8 m and there were six rows in each plot keeping row to row and plant to plant distance 70 cm and 20 cm, respectively. Results shows that the cultivars under study showed significant results with regard to yield components i.e. number of cobs per plant, number of grain rows per cob, number of grains per cob, 1000-grain weight, biological yield and grain yield. The effect of both cultivars on harvest index was non significant. Nitrogen rates significantly affected harvest index (HI). HI increased with increase in N rates i.e. 41.43, 42.85, 43.83 and 43.57 in N1, N2, N3 and N4 treatments respectively. Cultivar P-31-R-88 gave higher biological yield (21.98 t per ha) over
