Response of maize (Zea mays L.) to nitrogen and irrigation application strategies
2007
Khan, I.
Replicated three times the experiment was laid out in split plot design randomizing the irrigation techniques I1 (furrow irrigation) and I2 (alternate furrow irrigation) in main plots, while nitrogen placement N0 (control no nitrogen), N1 (1/2 N at sowing + 1/2 N at 1st irrigation), N2 (1/2 N at 1st irrigation + 1/2 N at 55 days after sowing) and N3 (1/3 N at sowing + 1/3 N at 1st irrigation + 1/3 at 55 days after sowing) were kept in sub plots. A net plot size of 3.0 m x 6.0 m was maintained. Maize hybrid DK922 was sown on 6th of August, 2006 in 75 cm apart double row strips by dibbling method, using seed rate of 30 kg per ha while plant to plant distance was 15 cm. Fertilizer was applied @ 200,150 and 100 kg NPK per ha, respectively. Full dose of phosphorus was applied at the time of sowing in the form of Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) while nitrogen was applied as per treatment. Furadon was applied @ 20 kg per ha before 1st irrigation to control insects especially maize bor
