The disappearance of the forests at the global level points to the seriousness of the problem and requires urgent application of the measures aimed at ending of the degradation and devastation of the current forest ecosystems. The concept of the ecocentric (or biocentric) use of this resources implies that the ecosystem is the comlexity of the living organisms and is valuable in itself because it treats in other way the needs of humans and their attitude towards nature. This paper is based on the Concept of the sustainable development and focused on the smaller territorial units (areas). The common aspen and birch forests in Pester plateau (Southwestern Serbia) were researched. These researches are aimed at the definition of the condition of the natural resources of forests and forest ecosystems and their use based on the principles of the sustainable development.
