Aim of the research was to discover the optimal hydraulic parameters that will enhance the efficiency of excess water drainage by examining of the state and flow conditions of the main drainage canal and by examining the working regime of the pumping station. Research was carried out on the Plavna drainage system, which is located in the southwest part of the Backa region (Serbia). Hydraulic model of the main drainage canal of the drainage system Plavna was created based on geodetic survey of canal bed, hydrometric measurements and hydraulic calculations. Hydraulic model was used for analysis of the state and discharge capacity of the main canal and for numerous simulations which were used to examine the impacts of the change of certain hydraulic parameters such as geometric shape of canal bed, values of hydraulic roughness and pumping regime. The result of research showed that decreasing the hydraulic roughness, continuous pumping regime and modification of the geometric shape of canal bed can enhance the flow of condition in the main canal, which, in turn enhances the efficiency of the excess water drainage.
