The technological process of metal processing involves a number of toxic substances which are released together with wastewater owing to the particular nature of the process, thus endangering the environment. The subject of this research is the analysis of quality parameters for wastewater emulsion from metal processing at the Factory of Non-ferrous Metals in Prokuplje (Serbia). The aim of the research is selection of optimal parameters for wastewater emulsion purification. Research was conducted in the laboratory and on a semi-industrial scale, with the use of mineral oil water emulsions as a model for wastewater emulsions and of actual wastewater emulsions. Testing was done to determine how the efficiency of wastewater emulsion purification, elutriation speed for a flocculated particle suspension, and sludge dehydration speed are affected by mineral oil type and concentration, coagulant type and initial concentration, initial concentration of hydrated lime, type and quantity of diatomaceous earth. Efficiency of wastewater emulsion purification does not depend on the mineral oil type, the type and amount of diatomaceous earth or on temperature but rather on mineral oil concentration, the type and initial concentration of electrolytes, and on pH value.
