Important guideline in business policy of Carnex Meat Industry (Vrbas, Serbia) is managing special waste streams balanced with the aims of environmental protection. Significant amount of waste or secondary material is generated on a daily basis in JSC Carnex from various operating processes. By its nature the largest amount of generated waste is nonhazardous waste as well as the waste of an organic origin. Nonhazardous waste from JSC Carnex according to waste hierarchy is taken over by firms authorized for recycling and treatment of waste, while the largest amount of waste coming from animal slaughtering is being processed in rendering plant which is a part of meat industry and which is registered for safe processing of category 3 materials. The most significant is animal waste arisen from animal slaughtering and meat processing, which requires special attention due to its organic characteristics. Animal waste materials decompose extremely quickly and attract rodents, insects, producing unpleasant odour. One of the most significant groups of waste is nonhazardous waste which is classified as nonhazardous due to its characteristics. This group contains waste as aluminum foil coming from packaging production, waste from plastic caskets, barrels, PET packing, wooden waste palettes, iron waste which comes from old machines which are not being used, used pneumatic tires from vehicles, as well as the cardboard waste. Crucial step towards proper waste management is developing conscience of people regarding adequate dealing with waste as well as the environment protection. Constant education of the employees is of great importance, both training of workers in production as well as management in every industry, with the aim of reducing the generation of waste and thereby contribute to the reduction of further environmental degradation.
