The dependence of mechanical properties (strength) of Douglas-fir, Weymouth pine and Austrian pine wood grown in plantations on density was researched, as well as the dependence of density on the width of annual rings. The study material originated from a typical even-aged stand, aged 35 to 40 years. The analysis consisted of three trunks, one for each tree species. The following properties were studied: density, annual ring width and compression strength, bending strength and shock resistance, at air dry state of moisture content. The study results show that there are differences in the strength properties of the above tree species, regarding the technically most valuable part of the stem from 1.30 to 3.30 m. Wood density has a positive effect on the tested strength properties. The study results are compared with the results from literature and presented in Tables and Diagrams.
