The data about ornamental and spontaneous plants hosts of Erwinia amylovora in Serbia are given in this paper. Till now as hosts of this bacterium in Serbia are proved firethorn (Pyracantha coccinea), two species of mountain ash (Sorbus domestica and S. torminalis), cotoneaster rock (Cotoneaster horisontalis), japanese quince (Chaenomeles japonica) and hawthorn (Crataegus ssp). All strains E. amylovora originating from ornamental plants cause HR in tobacco and necrosis of inoculated immature pear fruits followed by abundant oozinig. They also expressed a high level of homogeneity concernig bacteriological characteristics. Using more specific methods BIOLOG, ELISA, PCR and PFGE significant differences among strains from various hosts were not recorded. In addition, comparative study of bacteriial strains from ornamental plants, hawthorn and strains from pomaceous fruit trees show also high similarity. Proposed control measures of E. amylovora on ornamental plants include administrative and mechanical measures (eradication of severe diseased trees and shrubs). Fotosanitary survey of ornamental plant nursery are recommended and laboratory analyzes of suspicious samples.
